When considering fruit consumption of Sri Lankan elderly people, the majority of people consume banana which represents 94.4% of the total. Papaya is the second most frequently consumed fruit and third most frequently consumed fruit is Mango which represent 80.4% and 70.0% of the total respectively. Other fruits like Apple, Orange, Bael fruit, Wood apple, and Pineapple are consumed at considerable amounts ranging from 12.8% to 31.2%.  Less commonly consumed fruits included Avocado, Watermelon, Guava, Nelli, and various others, each reported by only a small percentage of participants (Less than 2.0%).

It is important to note that considerable number of
people tend to consume high fiber fruits like Bael fruit, Papaya, Mango, Wood apple, 
etc.

The majority of elderly people are consumed fruits 3-4 times a week usually which represents 36.4% of the total. 24.4% people are consumed fruits 1-2 times a week. Only 9.6% of people are consumed fruits 7 or more times a week and 16.8% people consume fruits 5-6 times a week. 12.8% people are consumed fruit less than once a week. This predicate that less than 9.6% of Sri Lankan elderly people meet the recommended daily fruit intake.
